ASSET intercomparison of ozone analyses.
Most of the data is made freely available for
research purposes, though please note that additional restrictions apply to the use
of the ECMWF analyses. Depending on which of the analyses you use,
please cite the appropriate references from the list below, along with Geer et al.
(2006, ACP). See the intercomparison paper for the full details
of these citations.

Data
|
All data is in NetCDF format. In these files, the parameter "julian_day" contains the date and time in the format used in IDL. This is the time in days since 12UTC, 1st January 4713 B.C, including fractions of days to represent the time precisely. In this representation, 00UTC on 1st January 2000 is given by 2451544.5. Other parameters and units should be self-explanatory from the contents of the NetCDF file.

Analyses
Independent data
|
The original indepdendent data files can be downloaded from the TOMS,
HALOE, SHADOZ, WOUDC and NDSC websites. MIPAS data can be obtained via ESA.
Observational data pre-processed for use in the ASSET intercomparison is available to
ASSET project members, those that contact the ASSET PI and ask for access, but
in the case of MIPAS data, only those who are allowed access via an ESA AO project.
Independent data on original levels:
Ozone sonde:  asset_2003.nc
readme file
HALOE:  haloe_asset.nc
MIPAS:  mipas_asset_o3.nc
Independent data interpolated onto the common pressure levels:
Ozone sonde:  sonde_on_clev.nc
HALOE:  haloe_on_clev.nc
MIPAS:  mipas_on_clev.nc
|
Climatology
|
Logan (1999) and Fortuin and Kelder (1998) climatologies combined and
meaned in
latitude bands. These are the values used in the calculation of normalised
statistics:
banded_logan_fk_clev.nc

Code
|
All IDL code used in the intercomparison is listed here.
The top-level program is asset_run.pro. In the interpolation of analysis data to the common
grid, and the interpolation of independent data to common levels,
there are dependencies on many data files that are not
supplied on this website. However, all operations on the common-gridded data
should work.
